The Role

The Head of Magazine Publicity will be responsible for managing proactive and ongoing trade and content promotion campaigns for Bloomberg LP¿s magazine properties worldwide.

Reporting to the Director of Global Communications for Bloomberg News, the successful candidate will manage the strategic external communications plans related to Bloomberg Businessweek and Bloomberg Markets magazines, and manage existing teams and outside resources, firms and consultants globally.

This position will have a close working relationship with the magazines¿ publishing and
editorial teams to ensure consistency of message. The successful candidate will have strong contacts with other influential trade, print and broadcast media and he/she should be able to produce placements within weeks of starting.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage existing teams and develop and execute proactive strategies, programs, and tactics to ensure the unique voice of Bloomberg¿s magazine properties is present in trade and consumer media.
  • Think strategically about ways to promote the magazine brands and develop entrepreneurial promotional programs.
  • Support the broader corporate communications strategies and tactics across the company.
  • Manage team responsible for researching and pitching stories, and identifying opportunities for strategic publicity.
  • Provide overall communications support to key executives and editors, including speechwriting, presentation skill development, media training and strategic advice.
  • Write press releases on staff hires, news stories, polls, product launches and partnerships,
  • along with the corresponding talking points, Q&A¿s and other background documents.

  • Assist with the media training of journalists and executives.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans; lead crisis/issue management
  • Programs for specific events or longer term; coordinate communication with all key stakeholders corporate-wide in a crisis situation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a senior level management
  • communications and publicity role.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline is required
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing comprehensive communications plans
  • and strategies, including proactive media strategies including business/financial, political,
    trade and technology media; and managing crisis communication and public affairs/issues.
  • A respected communications professional with strong media relationships is mandatory. Relevant
  • candidates will also have strong executive communications/media training experience.
  • The successful candidate will have experience building his/her own internal credibility and becoming a sought-after resource for communications advice and counsel;
  • Writing press releases, talking points, background memos, speeches and remarks for senior level managers.

  • High energy, motivated person with the ability to interact and understand both the "big picture" and "the details".
  • Demonstrated sound strategic ability, good judgment and business acumen, with a high degree of passion and aptitude for creating the voice of Bloomberg externally.
  • Design oriented with an appreciation and understanding of the Bloomberg culture and history, including the importance of the terminal.
  • Ability to manage a number of programs/projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, multi tasking and project management skills with a focus on discretion, planning, setting priorities and delivering results under tight time constraints.
