The Role

Bloomberg News is seeking a Reporter to join our News Data team in our Washington D.C. office to expand data coverage of economics, commodities and energy. The person in this role will extract economic data from press releases under real-time deadline pressure, and will survey economists ahead of indicators to gauge and set market expectations. The candidate will need to be fast and accurate in taking data and turning it into table-based stories for our clients, working closely with other reporters and editors to help with our news coverage.

An additional responsibility is being the main point of contact for the WDCI function which includes the TARP program as well us government bailouts, credit losses and capital raised.

The ideal candidate will have an education in economics or finance, Excel proficiency including VBA and the ability to work under deadline pressure.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor¿s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience covering or working with economic indicators
  • Understanding of economics to determine what data releases are important enough to cover and what data within those releases should be emphasized
  • Ability to write introductions and headlines for economic data tables
  • Ability to use Excel spreadsheets is essential; knowledge of VBA is strongly desired as well
  • Experience working in a real-time news environment is a plus
  • Creative and analytical thinking
