About Bloomberg Ventures

Bloomberg Ventures is a subsidiary of Bloomberg LP. Bloomberg Ventures' mandate is to incubate new Bloomberg businesses and to partner, invest or acquire early-stage companies that are synergistic with Bloomberg LP. Bloomberg LP is a diverse organization, so synergies will be wide ranging. However, our main focus will be: data and content, technology, mobile, work process, customer service and brand enhancement. We like to work with organizations where there are unique, defensible and robust business ideas with great people who have the passion and focus to execute. We are size, maturity and geography neutral, believing that partners may be discovered in many different places and circumstances.

About Bloomberg Institute

Bloomberg Institute will become the world's leading financial education, recruitment and training business. Bloomberg Institute's products span the lifecycle of a customer's financial career. From educating students in their first finance job, to helping the seasoned executive learn a new product or asset class, Bloomberg Institute will be an instrumental partner in our customers' careers. Bloomberg Institute is the education extension of Bloomberg LP, and carries on the company's renowned tradition of providing the world's most sophisticated and demanding customers with the information and tools they need for their career and financial success.

The Role:

The CEO of Bloomberg Institute will build a global education, recruiting and training business from the ground up, overseeing overall business strategy, product development, sales and execution. As Bloomberg Institute's general manager, the CEO will be responsible for 2 business lines:

(1) The Bloomberg Assessment (BAT) and preparation material. The BAT is a global, standardized online exam that the Bloomberg Institute has developed in partnership with premier financial institutions and university faculty around the world. The test is designed for undergraduates and recent graduates, who are interested in an entry-level job at a financial institution (e.g. an analyst position within the Equity Capital Markets group at a bulge bracket investment bank). Therefore, the test reflects the skills, knowledge and abilities required for a range of entry-level financial positions. Student-permissioned BAT scores will be maintained in a Bloomberg Institute database, access to which will be sold to recruiters and business managers looking to filter and hire job applicants. The Bloomberg BAT will become the de facto test for entry-level financial applicants around the world.

(2) Professional training and education products. Bloomberg Institute will launch a series of online training and education products for financial market professionals. These course products will reflect Bloomberg's up-to-the-minute knowledge of financial markets and our customers' needs and wants, and leverage the experience of Bloomberg's financial experts, and product and technology staff. Course products will be centered on job type and description, asset class, and geography (e.g. back-office administration or CDS in emerging market companies).
As Bloomberg Institute's lead salesperson and head of product development, the CEO should have extremely high energy, and the ability to manage, motivate and scale an initially small team of product, sales, marketing, and engineering professionals. The CEO must be extremely organized and detail oriented, as there are many different facets to the Bloomberg Institute business. To be successful, the CEO must also understand how to leverage the many diverse Bloomberg assets for the business. Therefore, he/she must be capable of building consensus, understanding, and working closely with other business heads at Bloomberg LP. Finally, as Bloomberg Institute is a global business, the CEO must be capable of managing an international team and be willing to travel frequently.

Qualifications:

The CEO has the unique opportunity to create a large business at Bloomberg from inception. He / she must be creative, have a clear vision for Bloomberg Institute, and be entrepreneurial. Bloomberg prefers an executive who has previously built a company or corporate division from inception to substantial size and managed a P&L. The ideal candidate has a track record of successfully managing new productization, marketing, and sales teams in the financial recruiting, financial education or corporate training environment.
