The Role

Bloomberg has created a new web-based information product that will report on, analyze and quantify the impact of government actions on business and industry.It brings the same unparalleled level of fact-based, objective reporting and analysis to policymaking as it has provided to the financial community for the past 27 years.

Bloomberg Government is seeking a Experienced Web Producer with substantial news and production experience. This producer will be involved with daily online publishing and must have strong news judgment as well as the ability to learn new content management systems. The successful candidate will be able to work independently but closely with the Bloomberg Government news team in Washington, D.C.

This role will likely have an early morning, Monday-Friday schedule. Additional daily responsibilities include:

  • Attach and build out stories with photos, graphics and other online enhancements to offer a dynamic user experience.
  • Make editorial decisions about story selection and positioning.
  • Write concise headlines and two-sentence story summaries.
  • Edit and proofread stories and conduct site-wide quality and assurance checks.
  • Contribute to daily e-mail newsletter products.
  • Examine government databases to find relevant supplemental links for news stories.
  • Identify relevant stories from other websites.
  • Coordinate with editors, reporters and multimedia teams on story displays and scheduling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is essential
  • Previous journalism experience as an online editor or web producer is essential
  • A knowledge of U.S. government policy or business journalism is desirable
  • Strong computer skills, including a knowledge of HTML, CSS and Web content management systems
  • Exceptional headline-writing and editing skills
  • Experience working in a real-time news environment is desirable
  • Ability to both be a self-starter and to work under deadline pressure
  • A good communicator, collaborator and team player
  • Strong knowledge of the government, economy, financial markets and industry is a plus
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed to co-ordinate with the U.S team in Washington
