The Role

The Media Relations Manager for Bloomberg's Financial Products and Services will be responsible for helping enhance the company's image as a creator of innovative financial products and solutions through strategic, effective external communications. Working closely with the PR Director, the successful candidate will help develop and manage the strategic external communications plans related to media relations, communications, and crisis preparation. This person will be responsible for PR for Bloomberg Tradebook®, a leading global agency broker used by institutional traders, broker-dealers, hedge fund managers, market-makers and portfolio managers worldwide. This position will also have a close working relationship with marketing, as well as be a seamless component of larger integrated marketing communications campaigns.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute proactive strategies, programs, and tactics that help Bloomberg Tradebook increase sales and revenue.
  • Support the PR Director in developing and executing proactive media relations strategies including building and maintaining relationships with print, electronic and broadcast media in business, technology and general news arenas.
  • Proactively and positively position Bloomberg Tradebook in the marketplace and show differentiation from competitors.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase company's visibility and enhance its internal and external reputation; and support effective employee recruiting efforts.
  • Develop, implement and maintain appropriate metrics to evaluate impacts and effectiveness of external communications.
  • Support development of thought leadership and ensure that Bloomberg Tradebook spokespersons are properly prepared for media interviews and equipped with the appropriate key messages.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in developing and implementing proactive and reactive media relations for business/financial, trade, and technology media.
  • Strong executive communications/media training experience.
  • Ability to build his/her own internal credibility and becoming a sought-after resource for communications advice and counsel;
  • Highly intuitive;
  • A good listener who is comfortably being a change agent in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment;
  • Seeing opportunities and offering solutions. Has a fearless approach to taking on something new, gaining internal alignment and support for it and then driving it over the finish line;
  • Strong team player, protecting his/her colleagues and acting in their best
  • Ability to combine strong communications skills with an ability to understand and present financial and corporate stories, draft pitch letters and other documents and develop media placements.
  • Background in financial public relations, financial business media or corporate communications will be well suited.
  • Proven ability to make media pitches and secure media placements, and preferably a decent understanding of financial analytics or at least the means to comprehend and explain complex business topics.
  • Strong verbal communications and writing skills are essential.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced environment and manage your time.
  • Capable of handling complex projects under tight deadlines.
  • Absolute integrity, sound work ethic and stable work history.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience in financial and technology PR and have worked with an institutional trading platform or a brokerage business.
