The Role

Bloomberg has created a new web-based information product that will report on, analyze and quantify the impact of government actions on business and industry.It brings the same unparalleled level of fact-based, objective reporting and analysis to policymaking as it has provided to the financial community for the past 27 years.

Bloomberg is seeking an experienced editor in Washington, D.C. to help handle real-time coverage of Congress. This editor will work an afternoon-evening shift with a team producing legislative analysis and news coverage of legislative activity. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of the way Capitol Hill works; should have experience producing accurate stories in real time; should thrive in a collaborative environment; and should bring a creative, entrepreneurial energy to a team striving to constantly improve its delivery of excellent, exclusive content. This editor must have at least five years of experience in congressional journalism. Wire service experience would be a plus. This editor should be comfortable working directly with basic HTML and some tagging functionalities. Other responsibilities include:

  • Working with reporters, editors and policy analysts;
  • Working with photo editors and the online team to enhance the display of news and analysis;
  • Helping to coordinate daily congressional coverage with other Bloomberg News teams.

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  • At least five years of journalism experience as an editor or reporter covering Congress;
  • A minimum of 10 years of journalism experience and a proven track record of success;
  • Experience working in a real-time news environment;
  • Experience covering federal government and business, and a deep understanding of their relationship;
  • First-hand understanding of the way the House and Senate leadership operate would be a plus.
  • Ability to deliver information accurately in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to quickly provide insight into congressional or political action;
  • Demonstrable attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Entrepreneurial, innovative and energetic approach to the job;
  • A great communicator, collaborator and team player;
  • Knowledge of politics, the government, economy, financial markets and industry;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours;
  • Ability to pick up new technical skills as necessary.
