The Role:

Bloomberg's product and technology teams are committed to creating exceptional human experiences with technology by transforming complex data, workflow processes, and end user requirements into functional and unique software products.

Bloomberg's Financial Products User Experience group is expanding and looking for experienced, self-motivated Interaction Designers. Our Interaction Designers are multi skilled innovators with extremely strong interaction design and design communication skills, user research and usability evaluation expertise, and an urge to transform complexity into simplicity. We are looking for a multi-disciplinary team player who can quickly learn our organization's needs and culture and take responsibility for critical design decisions regarding current and future Bloomberg products.

Interaction Designers at Bloomberg form a core team that is responsible for the highest visibility business application and platform projects. We partner with subject-matter experts, product managers, technologists, and graphic designers to envision and deliver solutions that meet our customers¿ needs. The person in this role will take ownership of a domain and visualize, plan, and deliver new products and major enhancements. Since we use a customized UI toolkit, we need to specify interactions at a very granular level. Interaction Designers create and maintain standards for this toolkit as well as recommended design patterns for our 3,000+ programmers to follow. Bloomberg¿s client-server model allows instantaneous delivery of software to customers, so we can test iteratively in real-time. The candidate should have a track record of applying common User-Centered Design practices and tools to solve tough design problems. Experience in designing complex workflows, decision-support systems, large dataset visualizations, and framework-level interactions will be a plus. The ideal candidate would be a quick study, able to understand constraints quickly and be able to both produce and communicate creative design solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Human Factors, or other related field; Master¿s degree or PhD a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years designing highly interactive solutions for complex usage scenarios, such as UIs for expert users, desktop apps, highly interactive Web apps, platform-level tools, etc.
  • In-depth understanding of User-Centered Design methodologies and tools
  • Proficient in design and rapid prototyping tools including Omnigraffle, Visio, InDesign, etc.
  • Any programming knowledge and familiarity with the basics of financial markets would be pluses
