The Role

Bloomberg's R&D Network Design & Information Security (NDIS) group is responsible for the design, architecture, development and security for Bloomberg's internal and client-facing global network, security, and virtualization infrastructure.

The NDIS group is looking for a Senior Network & Systems Security Engineer. As an senior engineer in Bloomberg's Network Security and Services team, you will be a key part of securing and delivering Bloomberg applications and services to users around the world. Our group designs, builds, and secures Bloomberg's Internal and Internet infrastructures ensuring our products are high-performing, secure, and reliable.

You will join a tight-knit group of engineers who are enthusiastic about technology. Team members are expected to provide ideas and develop solutions for complex and interesting problems. Our team is expected to follow through and solve problems, even if it means analyzing packet captures for a week. You will need to eventually be able to troubleshoot production problems quickly and with ease. Our team members are expected to work in an open environment sharing information and ideas with coworkers and other internal groups.

The Senior Network & Systems Security Engineer will be responsible for:

• Leading the design, review, and implementation of strategic security initiatives
• Leading security reviews of applications and network infrastructure
• Leading audits of network security policy and infrastructure
• Participating in the management of the security of our global IP network
• Researching and testing new technologies for inclusion in the Bloomberg network security portfolio

Qualifications:

• 10+ years relevant experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in network protocols like TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SSL, BGP, DNS, SNMP, VRRP
• Proficient in firewalls, routers, proxies, load balancers, and UNIX-based systems
• Proficient at securing systems (e.g. common operating systems, network equipment)
• Proficient in security concepts and technologies such as IPS, VPNs, D/DoS
• Working knowledge of common web architectures and related security risks
• Working knowledge of large scale networks including architecture and security risks
• Working knowledge Windows based operating systems
• Working knowledge of scripting languages (python preferred)
• Familiarity with incident response and forensic investigation
• Ability to write technical specifications and operational documentation
• Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
• A strong desire to learn while being able to complete tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Computer Science or other computer-related specializations
