The Role

Bloomberg Businessweek is seeking a Data Editor to join the team that covers business school and higher ed. The data editor will be responsible for our annual research and evaluation projects, including the design of and data collection for our Best Business Schools product. This person will work with internal and external partners to develop and improve our current data collection and survey methodologies, work with outside data providers and analysts when necessary, communicate with the schools that participate in our rankings, and collaborate with our internal product, engineering and design teams.

Our ideal candidate is an analytics whiz with strong writing and communication skills, ideally some experience in journalism or writing for non-technical audiences. This person will improve the research products we have and create new ones, and be able and eager to turn data, analysis and ideas into sparkling content. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, news judgment, and a sense of humor.

Qualifications:

  • A record of academic achievement, ideally an MBA or M.S. with an area of focus in one of the following areas: statistics, economics, sociology, political science, or business.
  • 2-5 years of experience with survey methodology and survey operations, such as questionnaire design and data analysis.
  • Knowledge and application of relevant software (i.e. SPSS, SAS, SQL, R, Excel, visualization software).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, especially the ability to communicate about survey findings to non-technical audiences. Journalism a plus.
