The Role

Bloomberg's User Experience group is expanding and looking for an experienced, innovative Senior Visual Designer. We are looking for a creative, multi-disciplinary team player who can take a role in both granular design work and the strategic visual design direction for current and future Bloomberg products.

The candidate should have a proven track record in producing exciting, innovative visuals for modern software applications and other digital and interactive properties. Work done on OS-level projects is a plus. The candidate will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team of visual designers, interaction designers, prototypers, business analysts, and engineers. The individual in this role will be responsible for iterating on out-of-the-box solutions and resolving tough design problems in the financial arena that
involve large data sets and complicated workflows. An ideal candidate should have an innovative portfolio, understand constraints quickly, meticulous attention to transitional states (e.g. finding the right visual metaphors for user actions such as hiding or showing an object), and be able to produce and communicate creative design for colleagues, clients, and senior executives.

In addition to visual design principles, the candidate must be familiar with UCD methodologies and design cycles. Professional experience or a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, or related field is strongly preferred.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Interactive or Multimedia Design, or related field
• 8+ years of experience in designing and prototyping for desktop applications and platform-level tool is a must. Experience with rich Web-based applications is a plus
• Demonstrated understanding of Visual Design and UCD principles via a portfolio
• Demonstrated fluency with design tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite via a

portfolio


• Familiarity with wireframing and prototyping tools such as Visio/OmniGraffle, Flash/Flex, Blend/WPF, Director, HTML/CSS/JavaScript
• Strong typographic skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
