The Role

Bloomberg New Energy Finance is the world's leading provider of industry information and analysis to investors, corporations and governments in clean energy, low carbon technologies and the carbon markets. Our dedicated global network of analysts is continuously monitoring technology market changes, deal flow and financial activity, allowing instantaneous transparency into the clean energy and carbon markets. The successful candidate will undertake and primary research and analysis of the global geothermal power industry. Research topics and workstreams will include some combination of:
¿ Detailed modeling of geothermal projects and project finance structures
¿ Analysis of power purchase agreements (PPAs), levelised cost of energy, asset financing
¿ Modeling the sector impact of country and regional policies
¿ Forecasting short and long-term demand/supply dynamics and market sizes
¿ Analysis of competitiveness within the sector and with competing forms of energy
In addition, the role will include supporting consultancy projects which Bloomberg New Energy Finance¿s Geothermal analysis team may undertake. Finally, a vital part of the role will be to leverage Bloomberg New Energy Finance's resources and research around the world, apply lessons from markets outside the geothermal sector, and explain the geothermal market to our global client base.

Candidates located in New York, San Francisco or Singapore will also be considered.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a scientific, engineering or economics degree
  • Graduate level degree preferred in a numerate, environmental or science-based subject
  • Professional experience within an energy, consulting or financial organization
  • Excellent knowledge of finance, and ideally some background in project finance
  • Understanding of the renewable energy sector, and ideally some background in energy markets (geothermal, power and/or upstream oil and gas)
  • Ability to assimilate and assess new and highly technical information, and to explain it to others
  • Exceptional quantitative skills, and a desire to make complex subjects understandable and relevant to a wide range of clients with different concerns
  • Ability to cut through the noise of large quantities of data, to extract and analyze key patterns, and write research which links the detail to the big picture
  • Exceptional communication skills: writing (for research reports) and speaking (for presentations at conferences, to clients, or to the media)
  • Must act as a thought-leader and self-starter, have a high work-rate, ability to work on parallel tasks and rigorous attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work as a team with colleagues and clients from different cultures, both face-to-face and remotely, with high degree of professionalism
