The Role:

The Discoverability team develops infrastructure and applications to solve the most fundamental problem facing our users: finding the right data and information on the Bloomberg terminal. The team has written a Question/Answer engine from scratch, and developed a brand new search application that uses the engine to answer natural language based questions. The search system has been recognized for its innovation and quality, in Bloomberg and in external media.

The Discoverability team is looking for developers with industry experience solving natural language-related problems using statistical methods on vast quantities of data. An ideal candidate would be an expert in machine learning and have experience working on entity extraction, word-sense disambiguation etc.

A successful candidate would help lead the effort to develop the next generation of Q&A and search systems for the Bloomberg terminal. They would also have the chance to train a team of skilled developers in the state of the art machine learning/NLP/Search domains.

The responsibilities would include:

• Exploration and implementation of natural language processing techniques for query analysis, interpretation and answering
• Large-scale analysis of millions of user queries, for use in monitoring areas of user interest and constantly tuning search results in response to these findings
• Identification and rapid implementation of methods for improving overall search accuracy and user experience

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience designing and implementing high quality production systems with focus on machine learning/ NLP techniques
• Solid development and design skills
• Expertise in C++/C
• Strong communication skills
• Aptitude to solve client facing problems

Project management and leadership experience is a plus.
