The Role:

The R&D Search group is looking for an experienced software engineer to join us in building Machine Learning based models for improving ranking for a federated search engine. Bloomberg Search provides a single interface to search through millions of data points from dozens of structured and unstructured data stores including time-sensitive content (like news or events) and Natural Language Question Answering engines. We are exploring state of the art methods to learn and achieve optimal ranking and interleaving of results retrieved from such disparate sources.

Our current initiatives include:

  • Researching and implement highly scalable and efficient ranking models for a federated
  • search system.

  • Building query and user-intent classifiers using statistical methods. *Dynamically identify
  • and boost trending and time-sensitive content.
  • Exploring using session context and user behavior to improve search results.

For this role we are looking for engineers who can immediately contribute to these projects and keep up with the state of the art in learning-to-rank, user intent classification and search engine evaluation metrics.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of industry experience in production-level software development using C++
  • (preferred) or Java.

  • Very strong fundamentals in Machine Learning and Information Retrieval. *Industry
  • experience in solving search/discoverability related problems such as learning-to-rank,
    intent classification, query reformulation, recommendations or personalization.
  • Experience with a Lucene-based search system (SOLR/ Elastic Search) is a plus.
