The Role:
Bloomberg's Global Data department in Cape Town is seeking highly motivated Data Analysts to join their Earnings Estimates team. You will enhance and report financial markets content for the Bloomberg Professional service (the Bloomberg Terminal) that inspires news and drives analysis that empowers our clients to make better-informed decisions. As a Data Analyst, you'll play a key role in sourcing and updating the numbers, algorithms, and analytics that make Bloomberg data the most influential data in the world.
Whether you are sourcing market data from new or existing brokers and analysts, processing complex financial data, or implementing technology solutions to enhance our processes and software, your work will expand your data management skills, research skills and bolster your financial knowledge. Data Analysts are also expected to provide unparalleled customer service and solve complex issues, while building relationships with key market players in the financial industry.
In the Earnings Estimates data role your responsibilities will be to:
- you are responsible for researching the methodologies and accounting assumptions underlying forecasted company earnings estimate data contributed to Bloomberg by sellside and buyside analysts
- with this knowledge manage, research, verify, standardize and develop Bloomberg Earnings consensus forecasts based on research by the sell side and buyside analysts for various EMEA companies
- you will use accounting and financial statement knowledge to create a standardised aggregate mean consensus estimate on listed companies ahead of their financial reporting across various income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow measures, as well as ratios; such as estimated Sales, EPS GAAP & Adjusted, Net Income GAAP & Adjusted, EBIT, EBITDA, DPS, Net Debt, Net Asset Value, CAPEX
- Develop processes and applications related to accurate and timely data-acquisition from broker's and equity analysts regarding estimates of various companies', including working with our Frontend data team to onboard brokers for automatic contribution and confirming and procuring data over email and phone
- Work closely with global brokerage firms, and contribute to the dissemination of information that aids financial professionals in their decision-making process.
Additional responsibilities:
- Deliver excellent customer service to Bloomberg customers and to internal stakeholders
- Work closely with Bloomberg Research, News, Sales, R&D and our Product development teams to contribute to the future development and strategic direction of the product
The Global Data Training Program

Qualifications
- BA/BS Accounting/Finance/Business preferred or equivalent work experience
- Understanding of financial statements and accounting principles is key
- Information Systems/Excel/Programming/Technical skills are an added advantage (VBA, R2, Python skills will be beneficial)
- A professional level of written and spoken English is essential
- Capable of handling multiple deliverables simultaneously
- Demonstrate ability to comprehend, retain and communicate concepts
- Attention to detail and accuracy when working under pressure
- Commitment to enhancing and developing products and processes
- Driven to improve financial knowledge as well as interest in Equity markets
- Excellent communication, presentation and networking skills
