The Role

Reporting to the IT Category Lead, the Telecom Category Manager is accountable for development and execution of the Telecom Category strategies and responsible for contributing to development and execution of enterprise category strategies to optimize value. The Telecom Category Manager will strive towards continuous vendor improvement and effectively manage relationships with key category vendors and business stakeholders. The Telecom Category Manager will help to develop and sustain vendor and customer relationships and also assist in ensuring accountability exists within the managed category and performance is tracked rigorously.

  • Deep and current understanding of global Telecom supply/commodity markets and leverage Sourcing methodologies to drive the Telecom category
  • Responsible for end to end management of assigned category, including the category strategy, category sourcing plan, projects, category process and policies and managing to the spend and savings targets for the category
  • Align with global function and business leaders on their needs and develop global category strategy and council(s) to drive and support functional and business needs
  • Responsible for spend and contract management for assigned category
  • Responsible for assessing and managing global supply risk
  • Responsible for supplier relationship management and global coordination
  • Responsible for continuous quality and service from global suppliers to support efficient business operations
  • Accountable for global category spend savings targets and objectives
  • Lead global category supplier relationships and sourcing opportunities, including RFPs, negotiations, etc. if applicable
  • Accountable for global contract agreements and addendums and ensure valid local contracts are in place
  • Accountable for internal stakeholder KPIs for enterprise/global category(s) and support supplier scorecard for external stakeholder KPIs
  • Share SME knowledge across other business units and support cross BU activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 7 -10 years broad-based experience across supply chain, with particular focus in purchasing, strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, competitive price analysis, supplier relationship management and performance management
  • Deep expertise in the Telecom category, understanding of current market conditions demonstrated ability to drive savings using different category strategies
  • Experience managing and leading a team of category or sourcing specialists
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact in a cross-functional environment with all levels of executive management
  • Effective written and oral communications
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation / Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of the industry is desirable
  • Understanding of and experience in contract law and applicable legislation
