You will be based in our New York office as part of the U.S. power analyst team for BloombergNEF - the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers advancing the future of energy. Our team of experts, spread across six continents, provides analysis and insight to the largest corporations across utilities and generation, oil & gas, equipment manufacturers, banking and finance, and government.

We'll trust you to:

  •  Expand our scope in North American power by identifying and diagnosing short-, medium- and long-term trends as wind, solar and storage continue to disrupt power markets
  •  Collaborate with both our gas and renewables analyst teams to help build a holistic and balanced view of the role that different types of energy will play in the energy transition
  •  Effectively communicate views and findings on power market developments through reports, news stories, datasets, public presentations, and direct client interactions
  •  Build and maintain models and datasets to further our understanding of short and medium term regional markets
  •  Glean new insights and understanding from complex data sets
  •  Deliver both quantitative and qualitative research, utilizing the Bloomberg Terminal to distribute your research and analysis
    What's the role:
  •  Together with other team members, identify topics of interest to clients, conduct research, and report on the findings as soon as possible
  •  Develop and implement market-driving products, data sets, forecasts, and tools
  •  Develop a network of contacts in the industry and promote/represent BNEF reputably in the market with a wide variety of senior stakeholders
  •  Collaborate with a high degree of professionalism with colleagues and clients from different cultures and countries
  •  Promote high degree of knowledge leadership in the market
  •  Present your research at conferences and clearly communicate it to clients and prospects
    You'll need to have:
  •  7 years or more of experience analyzing power markets
  •  A deep understanding of the drivers that influence energy markets and the transition to a sustainable future in North America, including both economic and regulatory drivers
  •  Advanced technical skills, including experience using Excel, SQL and Python
  •  Experience with large datasets and building complex models
  •  A natural aptitude for graphically presenting data and writing clearly and concisely
  •  Rigorous attention to detail and a commitment to high quality work
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information in concise formats
  •  Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  •  A track record of thinking critically and developing thoughtful opinions by cutting through the noise of data, extracting key patterns, applying skepticism to the claims of industry participants and asking insightful questions
    We'd love to see:
  •  Prior experience or working in a trading environment or the utility sector
  •  Advanced Python skills (pandas, matplotlib, numpy, sklearn)
  •  Specific interest in using your talents to support a faster and more efficient energy transition
  •  Experience working with the Bloomberg Terminal
