About the product

BQuant is Bloomberg’s cutting edge financial research and data science platform. With the tremendous growth of market data and the increasing sophistication of machine learning and quantitative methods, finance is quickly becoming a business where only the best capitalized firms can compete. BQuant’s mission is to change that, by empowering researchers and investment decision makers around the world with the sophisticated tools that are currently only available to the largest investment firms.

Users can perform financial research using Jupyter and Spark, and we are adding features such as managed storage, Git and ReST services. Ultimately we aim to provide a complete catalog of managed services that could be used to run an investment business.

About the team

The Cloud Platform team is responsible for providing a “platform as a service” - we provide both infrastructure for the rest of the engineering group, and infrastructure capabilities that form part of the product. The team’s work is a combination of Terraform development on AWS, and Golang development on Kubernetes.

Some examples of recent and upcoming projects:

Building a data sandbox using Cilium
Identity federation
Building automation to provision managed services such as S3 repeatably and scalably
Private networking between customers and our cloud offering using Bloomberg’s private network
Cross-cloud private networking
Providing low level APIs for other teams to deploy software on Kubernetes

We are developing and scaling the product quickly (30x growth during 2022) and have interesting challenges across the gamut of cloud, networking, APIs, security, automation, observability, reliability engineering and organizational growth.

We are looking for experienced developers to help us grow.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Collaborate extensively with other engineering teams, product managers and the CTO office
  • Design infrastructure capabilities that enable product features and client workflows
  • Implement these capabilities using cloud services and Kubernetes
  • Treat security, observability and automation as first class features
  • Mentor junior members of the team
  • Foster a technically outstanding, welcoming and collaborative working environment
  • Attend and lead internal meetups for Kubernetes, Go, and other technologies that interest you.

You'll need to have:

  • 4+ years of software development or SRE experience
  • Significant experience working in a cloud native environment, using a modern technology stack
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Golang
  • Experience operating infrastructure in production
  • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience

We’d love to see:

  • Experience with our tech stack: AWS, Argo, Kubernetes, Golang, Terraform, Cilium
  • Experience with Kubernetes webhooks or operators
  • Experience with authentication and IAM
  • Experience building and operating Software as a Service (SaaS) or Platform as a Service (PaaS) products
