The Role

The Category Lead is responsible for leading the procurement enterprise strategy into the Business Units for execution. Supports CPO in strategy execution and idea generation for Business Unit markets. Responsible for researching trends within category market, defining future state vision for category and execution of overall strategy. People management responsibilities through dotted line reporting structure for Regional Category Managers and Sourcing Specialists.

  • Establish short- and long-term category objectives and strategy, over rolling three-year period
  • Align with business leaders on their needs and ensure category strategy supports business needs
  • Responsible for managing spend for assigned complex category(s)
  • Ensure supplier relationship management is coordinated on an enterprise level
  • Accountable for overall category savings targets and objectives
  • Manage global category supplier relationships and sourcing opportunities, including RFPs, negotiations, etc.
  • Ensure stakeholders are engaged with enterprise category strategy
  • Actively participate in leadership meetings
  • Align resources to meet business needs, ensure the team understands the global strategy and works toward cohesive, cost-saving agreements
  • Responsible for contract framework and proposed contractual agreements and ensure valid contracts are in place
  • Accountable for sound contract management and drive continuous value out of the contract
  • Manage internal/external stakeholder KPIs for enterprise category
  • Ensure stakeholders are engaged with enterprise category strategy
  • Actively participate in Procurement Steering Committee meetings and Category Council meetings
  • Align resources to meet business needs, ensure the team understands the global strategy and works toward cohesive, cost-saving agreements
  • Manage global contracts if applicable and monitor management of local contracts
  • Continuously improve contract Ts and Cs, pricing and strategic supplier relationships
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • For jointly-led categories, monitor key supply contract service level agreements
  • Manage internal stakeholder KPIs for enterprise category
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Seven or more years broad-based experience across supply chain, with particular focus in purchasing, strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, competitive price analysis, supplier relationship management and performance
  • Demonstrated ability to build global relationships / partnerships (internal and external), including virtually
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change globally
  • Ability to translate big picture into implementation
  • Ability to effectively lead through influence, mentor, develop, grow and evaluate group or staff
  • Effective written and oral communication with all organizational levels up to and including senior level executives
  • Ability to travel, domestically and internationally, up to 30% of the time
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation / Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS)is a plus
  • Strong understanding of the industry is desirable
  • Understanding of and experience in contract law and applicable legislation
  • Relevant category experience
