The Role:

Bloomberg's Financial Products User Experience group is looking for an experienced Usability Analyst with expertise in complex software products and business systems. This is a unique opportunity to influence one of the most ubiquitous and influential software products in the marketplace. This position will report into the Head of UX Design for Financial Products, in Bloomberg's CTO Office.

This role is responsible for leading qualitative, usability-oriented customer research initiatives that assist our UX team in making critical design decisions for current and future Bloomberg products. The ideal candidate is driven by the desire to be a customer advocate. You are, therefore, passionate about gathering insights based on direct observation and behavior to create intuitive, satisfying, and easy to learn client-facing products.

You will be focused on usability evaluation with planning, recruiting, facilitating, and performing post-analysis on usability studies in conjunction with our state-of-the-art usability lab in a fast-paced environment. Although the main focus of this role will be on usability evaluation, on occasion, you may also be called upon to collaborate with our interaction designers on user research, such as going out on client visits to observe our end users in their work environment. You will collaborate closely with visual and interaction designers, technologists, and product managers. You will create persuasive presentations for business, design and technology stakeholders as well as for c-level executives. Usability studies are conducted at our Bloomberg Usability Lab, remotely via screen-sharing, or on-site with clients.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10+ years of experience with planning and executing usability studies in a lab environment for highly interactive software user interfaces on desktop, mobile, or the web.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate usability findings and recommendations that are clear, concise, prioritized and actionable.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize business objectives and customer needs.
  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, remote testing, eye tracking, testing mobile interfaces, card sorting, survey evaluation, A/B and multivariate testing, and heuristic evaluations.
  • Experience with evaluating platform-level functionality such as OS features and UI toolkits is strongly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of data-logging tools such as Ovo Studios, Morae, and Camtasia.
  • Familiarity with ethnography, contextual inquiry and persona development is a plus.
  • B.S. in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Interaction Design, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related field is preferred; M.S. or Ph.D. is highly desired.
