The Role

Bloomberg seeks a reporter in our Tokyo office to cover Japan's stock market. Knowledge of the economy, financial markets and business is essential, and at least two years of business reporting experience at a major newspaper or wire service. The successful applicant will produce breaking news stories under real-time deadline pressure, contribute regular enterprise pieces, and write stories that are clear and comprehensive.

The reporter will focus on all aspects of the Japanese stock market, including daily trading and trends in earnings and the economy as they affect share prices. The reporter will also be expected to monitor industry recommendations, to quickly notice and explain individual share movements, and to develop sources among the market's most successful traders and investors. They will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues writing in Japanese and English to produce the best stories possible.

The Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • Experience of working in a real-time news environment is desirable.
  • Experience covering financial markets is desirable as is knowledge of the economy and business
  • Two years of business reporting experience is required as are superior math skills and attention to detail. Ability to use Microsoft Excel would be viewed favorably
  • English language skill
