What’s the role?
The Global Data Externship is a three day crash course on the Bloomberg Terminal, our clients and customers, and our technology stack. You will also have the opportunity to:
- Receive exposure to our transparent culture, open environment, and Global Data business
- Develop your market sector knowledge and learn from industry experts
- Participate in group projects, networking events, and professional development activities
- Join in a Bloomberg philanthropy event
- Enhance your leadership skills and interpersonal skills through networking events

What’s Global Data?
At Bloomberg, our Global Data teams are responsible for supplying the financial data that sustains the Bloomberg Terminal. We manage data processes to help our clients solve problems such as how to measure the risk of monsoons in Vietnam, so clients looking to invest in agriculture there can make more informed decisions, or how to measure the real wealth of people in Venezuela for clients who want to open stores in South America. We normalize unstructured data and turn it into insights for our users.
Global Data collaborates with Sales, News, and Research & Development, while staying in tune with our client needs, contributing to the development of the Data Management products and fueling Bloomberg news stories with the data that we receive. Our Analysts:
- Apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative work-flow efficiencies and implement technology solutions to enhance our processes and software
- Assist our world-renowned client support help desk with escalated client inquiries
- Develop expertise in fast-moving market sector information
- Intake and distill raw data to convey actionable information that enables our clients to make better-informed decisions
- Liaise with technology teams to enhance relevant product databases
- Maintain, improve and deliver accurate, high quality information for the Bloomberg Terminal
You'll need to have:
- Demonstrated project/work experience using one or more programming language (e.g. Python, JavaScript, SQL, etc.)
- Coursework or involvement within a field like Informatics, Mathematics, Economics, Business or other applied sciences
- Interest in data, technology, or the financial markets
- Extracurricular activities in addition to coursework
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Project management and organizational skills
- Strong aptitude for problem solving, plus the commitment to think creatively
- Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above
You will need to be:
- Currently enrolled in a university with a graduation date of December 2018 or May 2019
- Available between the dates of May 23rd – May 25th
- Legally authorized to live and work in the US without visa sponsorship
