Within Ticker Plant, the SRE team has the critical responsibility to ensure the production environment and its underlying platforms remain stable, robust and scalable in the face of never-ending growth and change. Besides some operations that are being automated on a continuous basis, we apply software engineering skills to make significant improvements to the status quo so we can keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible. We candidly partner with component teams, who are in charge of the business logic, to materialise fundamental improvements that enable our mission. We work together daily in a face-to-face fashion to drive the SRE mindset and help produce production-ready software from the start.
The sun never sets on our established teams located in Tokyo, London and New York who face unique challenges and have built particular expertise over the years. The geographical distribution provides an exciting work environment and diverse points of view enable everyone to deliver superior solutions for our demanding clients. For this year, we take a step back to focus on some of the basics of the SRE discipline with performance analysis, setting up SLI / SLO, system-level alerting, capacity planning and incident mitigation.
Who you are:
As an SRE Team Leader of 4 to 7 people, you will contribute individually and participate in the day-to-day responsibilities of your team. You will be expected to guide and coach the wider Ticker Plant organisation in London on SRE best practices and industry standards. You will be encouraged to take risks, meet with stakeholders, and collaborate with other Engineering teams and further the larger SRE community in the department. You will be actively developing and growing individuals through 1-1 discussions, mentoring and training. You’ll provide the leadership and guidance your team members need to help Bloomberg succeed and support them in their career aspirations. Your unique mix of technical expertise, stakeholder management, and people skills will be instrumental in driving the team forward.
You’ll need to have:
- Experience with running production systems, triaging and solving outages
- Software engineering experience
- Deep understanding of large-scale system architecture
- Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux internals
- Ability to foster a collaborative environment, develop a strong culture of teamwork and to leverage opportunities and creativity from a diverse team
- Proven success at adopting new methodologies driving an SRE culture
- Ability to listen effectively, communicate, challenge and influence team members, peers and your management
We’d love to see:
- Experience with blameless postmortems
- Versatility in one or more scripting languages (Python, Perl)
- Config management (Ansible, Saltstack, Chef)
- Knowledge of test frameworks (GTest, etc)
