We are looking for an experienced, hard-working, passionate journalist to join our Breaking News team in Washington as a Deputy Team Leader. We work alongside Bloomberg’s many government teams in Washington, from the White House to Financial Regulation, to headline market-moving news on the biggest stories at the heart of the American political system.

We'll trust you to:

  • Collaborate closely with dozens of Bloomberg reporters and editors in Washington and around the world
  • Assist the Breaking News Team Leader in managing the team, with an eye toward promoting professional growth among the members and staying up to speed on the latest Breaking News tools from around Bloomberg
  • Stay poised and sharp in the midst of a very busy, fast-paced, and demanding environment
  • Exercise accurate judgment and confident decision-making, even when faced with surprise news developments
  • Edit to make items more informative and compelling
  • Assign Breaking News items on spot news events, and plan news coverage for coming days and weeks
  • Help design ways to break news faster while never sacrificing quality
  • Unearth news from both traditional and social media sources
  • Recognize what is newsworthy, and pass on developments that are not
  • Be a constructive, flexible, and dependable team-player.

You'll need to have:

  • 3 or more years of experience in daily journalism
  • Knowledge of the White House, Congress and U.S. politics
  • Understanding of financial markets and foreign affairs
  • Familiarity with social media and appreciation of how news breaks on various platforms
  • Experience writing and editing, sending headlines and using social media and mobile tools
  • Ability to evaluate the credibility of social media sources and handle sensitive topics
  • Flexibility with hours and assignments.
