New York, NY
Posted May 2, 2022 - Requisition No. 86571
Who we are:
The Bloomberg CTO Office is the future-looking technical arm of Bloomberg L.P. We envision, design and prototype the next generation infrastructure, hardware and applications that interface in all aspects of the company including financial products, broadcast and media, data centers, internal IT and our global network. We are passionate about what we do.
What we do:
The Quant Research department is a multifaceted, collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment - the work is always exciting and the problems we solve are never boring. We explore and provide solutions all across the firm, covering the fields of derivatives, asset allocation, electronic trading, pricing of illiquid assets, alternative data, visualization methods, amongst many other areas.
The team, led by Bruno Dupire, who pioneered the local volatility model, is one of excellence, built with world-class scientists and hardworking researchers. While we conduct sophisticated mathematical modeling, we also develop innovative solutions for our customers. We publish many papers, both for academia and industry, participate in many conferences and own the BBQ (Bloomberg Quant) seminar, the biggest monthly seminar in quantitative finance.
We develop our projects in a Jupyter notebook based environment with bqplot, an interactive visualization library we built and open sourced. The projects cover virtually all fields of finance and the ability to learn fast and provide intuitive workflows and innovative visualizations are key to this role. The goal is to share these projects with our customers to support our BQuant initiative, the quant platform within the Bloomberg terminal that enables users to build, test and share research - with faster time to market.
We’ll expect you to:
- Build Jupyter notebooks to share and educate Bloomberg customers through write up of white papers and customer interactions
- Interact with users to not only educate them on the usage of these notebooks, but also gain market feedback and intelligence
- Build advanced mathematical models
You’ll need to have:
- PhD in a scientific field or Masters degree in Financial Engineering or Data Science, with a strong background in mathematics
- High proficiency in Python
- Solid understanding of Data Science and ML techniques
- Ability and willingness to interact with customers
- Strong writing skills to produce white papers that accompany projects
We’d love to see:
- Experience working in Quant Finance
- Interest in novel technologies
- Knowledge of numerical methods
