What is the role?
We are looking for an energetic, versatile, and passionate editor to join our Breaking News team in Bangkok. As a Breaking News editor you will be responsible for monitoring the constant flow of information from a range of sources including exchange filings by listed Thai companies, statements from the government, regulators and market-moving policy changes issued by various wings of the government. You will be expected to apply your news judgement to craft headlines and get them to clients urgently. You will also be pitching and writing step-back pieces on the markets and business trends and be involved in planning and coordinating coverage of major events, be it the elections, big corporate earnings, central bank rate decisions and speeches by influential policymakers and business leaders. You will be tasked to clearly distill why a story matters to our terminal clients in a fast-paced environment.
We'll trust you to:
- Make fast and decisive judgement calls on breaking news stories, a multitude of macro economic data, including M&A, IPOs, corporate earnings, government news and other events
- Unearth news from traditional and new-media sources
- Stay on top of major news stories and trends that matter to market participants
- Write stories and produce short video stories occasionally for Bloomberg's multiple platforms
- Utilize machine-learning tools to ensure Bloomberg retains its supremacy
- Work as a key member of the Bangkok bureau, including doing bureau shifts
- Be committed to the best journalistic practices, sound judgment and willingness to learn
- Collaborate with other reporters and editors around the world, including helping with regional breaking news needs as needed
- Be ready to jump on any story or assignment, big or small, as needed
- Be comfortable with using technology and new tools
You'll need to have:
- At least three years of experience in financial journalism
- Ability to write clean, clear and accurate stories on deadline
- Knowledge of how financial markets, the economy and corporations function
- Familiarity with social media and ability to evaluate the credibility of information from such sources
- An understanding of how government policies are made
- Fluency in written and spoken Thai and English
We’d also love to see:
- Experience working in a real-time news environment
- Familiarity with automation, machine learning and/or natural language processing
