Beijing

Posted Jan 17, 2018 - Requisition No. 64445

China has its most powerful leader in decades, an economy on pace to become the world's largest, and an expanding military reach. As U.S. President Donald Trump puts ``America First,'' Beijing is pursuing greater influence in the world.

Still, Chinese President Xi Jinping faces slowing growth, mounting debt and the prospects of a trans-Pacific trade war. Concerns about the Communist Party's tightening grip on everything from corporate boards to messaging apps are on the rise. Tensions with North Korea simmer on his doorstep.

We are seeking an experienced editor on our North Asia Government team to help drive our coverage of the Greater China region, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. You will help guide reporters to break news on Xi's domestic and foreign policies, as well as find compelling ways to explain issues to a global audience through the prism of business, economics, markets and geopolitics. The position will be based in either Beijing or Hong Kong. An in-depth knowledge of China and Chinese-language skills are preferred.

Who are we looking for?

You will be a strong writer who thrives under deadline pressure. You will be a team player who can collaborate with reporters and editors across the globe. You have experience covering China, working with a diverse group of journalists and juggling several things at once. You're curious, passionate and strive for excellence in your work. You actively promote stories on social media and feel comfortable contributing to multiple platforms, including television and radio.

You need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work in a real-time news environment and apply swift news judgment
  • Proven career in business journalism
  • Track record of finding scoops and breaking news
  • Excellent editing skills and experience executing on feature stories

If this sounds like you: Apply if you think you are the person we absolutely must consider. We we'll get in touch to let you know what the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at http://www.bloomberg.com/

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status.
