A vast continent where politics captures global headlines and economics that rocks international markets. A commodity-rich region seeking new drivers of growth, led by a collection of wildly different flavors of government. All to the south of an increasingly nationalistic U.S.

Bloomberg is seeking an experienced managing editor for the challenging role of leading a combined economics and government team with reporters and editors in eight locations. This job requires a creative journalist who can make sense of complex political and economic issues in plain language for a global business audience. The editor will manage a large, talented group of reporters and editors to break news, move markets and deliver memorable, surprising and ambitious enterprise stories that build on themes within and across borders.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of what drives economies and governments in the region, and how that fits in with the global picture, including with companies, markets and investors. This editor will ensure fast, accurate and contextual coverage of economic data and central bank decisions. The position requires an ability to weave economic context and analysis into political stories and political context and analysis into economic stories.

The ideal candidate will thrive under deadline pressure and have experience dealing with multiple breaking stories, a heavy news and eco data calendar and reporters based in remote locations. This editor will promote stories internally and externally across all of Bloomberg’s platforms, including social media, our Balance of Power newsletter and our Economic Briefs.

The managing editor will be a strong collaborator and communicator given they must work closely with bureau chiefs and regional managers, and with our teams internationally.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in business journalism
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, breaking news environment and makes sound news decisions quickly
  • Ability to generate original story ideas and see them through
  • Excellent editing skills and experience with features and story graphics
  • Leadership experience
  • Knowledge of regional economics and politics is an advantage
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese or Spanish
