The Team

As part of Bloomberg’s External Relations department, our team is responsible for leading engagement with Government and Regulatory authorities in relation to policy formation impacting Bloomberg and our clients.
Our team builds and maintains a wide and deep network of partners through the organisation of high-level summits and roundtables with key decision makers and by constructively feeding into the policymaking process through strong engagement with legislators and regulators.
We also coordinate closely with the other key divisions of External Relations, Communications, Bloomberg Corporate Philanthropy as well as Legal and Compliance.

The Role

We are looking for an ESG Regulatory Affairs Expert to join Bloomberg’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team to support the work of our ESG Regulatory Affairs lead as well as our EU Affairs Director. You will work closely with the team to drive forward our work around shaping upstream policy developments and advocacy strategy on sustainable finance regulatory initiatives impacting Bloomberg and our clients. You will proactively support the organisation and execution of a series of initiatives designed to convene senior policymakers and business leaders on key policy objectives around sustainable finance, positioning Bloomberg as a thought leader in the broader sustainable finance debate.
As a driven, self-starter, you will be a strategic thinker and an executor, with outstanding collaboration skills. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have excellent research, writing and verbal communication skills and a proven track record in responding to policy developments.
Based in Brussels, this role requires between four to eight years of work experience*.  
*Please note we use years of experience as a guide but we certainly will consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.

You will

  • Identify, monitor and conduct detailed research on sustainable finance regulatory developments, in Europe and globally, as well as prepare policy and technical notes for internal stakeholders as developments unfold. 
  • Position Bloomberg as an influential contributor to key sustainable finance regulatory issues globally.
  • Draft consultation responses and position papers, as well as coordinate and support engagement and dialogue with policymakers.
  • Coordinate and prepare briefing notes and thought leadership pieces on sustainable finance regulation, globally and in particular in Europe.
  • Design, organise and execute regulatory and policy roundtables on sustainable finance in Brussels and other key jurisdictions.
  • Build, maintain and expand regulatory and policy relationships globally.
  • Support the advocacy priorities of the wider External Relations team and collaborate with the communications and marketing, as well as Legal and Compliance teams.
  • Partner with the Bloomberg Corporate Philanthropy team on initiatives around advancing sustainability.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Bloomberg as they drive forward a range of sustainability related initiatives.  

You will have

  • A deep understanding of and strong interest in our business; a sound knowledge of a range of EU sustainable finance initiatives, namely, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation, Taxonomy Regulation and more, as well as significant experience working with European and/or international institutions.
  • A good understanding of policy and regulatory developments in other key jurisdictions which are advancing ESG regulatory measures such as the UK and emerging markets.
  • Excellent knowledge of the evolving sustainable finance policy landscape at the global level, and an understanding the work of global initiatives such as the International Sustainability Standards Board and other key standard setters or private sector led initiatives. 
  • Proven experience of contributing to and shaping policymaking and a strong track-record of working with policymakers and regulators, as well as within the EU Member States.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders, as well as adapt to working in a fast-paced environment and with an international team.
  • Sound understanding of European and global financial markets and Bloomberg’s role in the financial ecosystem.
  • Outstanding critical thinking, research, analysis and communication skills.
  • An ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work to short- and long-term deadlines simultaneously.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other EU language is essential.
