The candidate should have deep knowledge and understanding of the local credit market, pension funds and hedge funds. The role requires approaching South Africa's markets and investment climate not only from a domestic perspective, but also as part of the broader asset class of emerging markets, with a focus on emerging markets across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The job requires a broad understanding of currencies, bonds and distressed debt, as well as the role that foreign creditors, investors and multilateral lenders such as the IMF play in helping determine the outlook for such securities.
Prior experience covering emerging markets is not required, but building a strong network of contacts among investment banks, as well a solid network of pension, portfolio and hedge fund managers, and key financial and credit institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, is essential.

You'll need to have:

•  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in equity markets
•  Solid news judgment and a strong sense of urgency
•  The ability to write quickly and concisely under deadlines, to cultivate sources and work across teams and platforms
•  Contacts among major investors, the stock exchange, equity traders and brokers
