Posted May 15, 2024 - Requisition No. 125286

Bloomberg News is looking for a dedicated Weekend Editor for Breaking News in London, working Thursday to Sunday. Bloomberg is one of the world's biggest financial news organizations, leading the way in covering everything that impacts markets, power and policy. The Breaking News team is fast and innovative, and our mission is to deliver news to readers as quickly as possible.

You'll be a part of the UK & Global Monitoring Breaking News team, tackling the deluge of company filings, working with automated tools, and writing news that moves markets. On the weekend, the news doesn't stop, so neither do we. You'll be the first responder for a dedicated team making sure that 24 hours a day, seven days a week, when clients turn to Bloomberg, they're up to date.

You will watch the constant flow of information from sources including social media, other news organizations and company filings; independently decide what has potential to make an impact; and relay that information in headlines and dispatches as quickly and clearly as possible. You play a crucial role in making the newsroom work together, leveraging your network to kick everyone else into gear. You'll take the lead when mega-acquisitions are announced out of the blue, when rockets are fired in the Middle East or when earthquakes threaten populous cities. You'll help cover the late-night twists and turns of US politics and be the first to notice when a tweet could have an impact on trading decisions.
If this sounds like you, we want you to join our Breaking News team.

We'll trust you to:

  •  Send accurate, clear flash headlines that move markets
  •  Decide when to act with urgency, and when we need to take a breath
  •  Stay poised and focused in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  •  Unearth news from traditional and new-media sources
  •  Collaborate with Bloomberg reporters and editors across EMEA and the world

You need to have:

  •  A minimum of 2 years of journalism experience
  •  Experience working in a real-time news environment
  •  A keen interest in financial and business news from all around the world
  •  Fluency in another European language is a plus, but not required
  •  Ability to evaluate the credibility of social media
  •  A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  •  Flexibility with hours and assignments. News is unpredictable!
  •
Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know that the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at:
