At Bloomberg, we are relying increasingly on fully-automated systems to carry out tasks that traditionally involved significant manual intervention, and we are building a new team in London focused on this work.

The first major initiative for this team is to design, develop and deliver a new automated system that integrates with the output from many engineering teams in Bloomberg’s main development offices and builds, tests, packages and deploys the mission-critical software that all Bloomberg Professional Service subscribers rely on every day.

The Bloomberg Professional Service is Bloomberg's flagship product. The part that clients interact with comprises a suite of sophisticated software that runs on the Windows desktop on trading floors around the world, allowing financial professionals to access real-time data, news and analytics. This software is updated and enhanced regularly, requiring an efficient and reliable build, test and deployment system.

As part of this team, we’ll trust you to:

• Bring your experience of designing resilient systems in Python and be influential in the design of this new system, as well as playing a major part in coding the solution.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to understand and improve the release process for different types of software
• Design and develop monitoring tools that allow engineers and management to see live system status
• Maintain and extend our Continuous Integration system, adding new features for comprehensive automated testing
• Influence strategic decisions concerning future build environments and release processes
• Work alongside engineers designing and developing core pieces of the Bloomberg Professional Service

You’ll need to have:

• Fluent programming skills in Python
• Hands-on knowledge of C++ and Javascript
• Experience of git, Github or Github Enterprise
• An understanding of continuous integration principles and writing testable code
• Experience of an agile development environment

We’d love to see:

• Fluency with github and knowledge of extending these environments (hooks, for example)
• That you have used Jenkins or other Continuous Integration frameworks
• Knowledge of Windows and UNIX at the command line
• Experience dealing with large open source and proprietary codebases
• An understanding of how software suites get installed on Windows
• That you demonstrate knowledge of writing resilient code to build reliable systems
