At Bloomberg, our products are fuelled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock – from around the world. In Data, we’re responsible for delivering this data, news, and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately.

The Data Management Lab (DML) sits within the Data organization, and supports Data’s pursuit of data management excellence through aligning industry practices on data management principles with Bloomberg's established expertise in financial market data. DML empowers our data professionals to make their products “ready-to-use”, through promoting increased data discoverability, accessibility, appraisability, interoperability, and analysis-ready.
The Process Engineering team works alongside dedicated Data Quality and Business Intelligence teams to support DML’s mission by designing and developing workflow systems that leverage the best of our people and technology to meet the evolving needs of Bloomberg’s clients. As a member of the team you will have a direct impact on the ability of teams to produce best in class data products through efficient and purpose driven workflow systems.

In this role, we'll trust you to:

  • Leverage platforms such as JIRA and GIGwork to develop and upgrade human-centric worklist management solutions, serving the right items to the right people at the right time
  • Interface directly with Data Management partners to assess and refine their functional requirements into end-to-end user workflow designs
  • Apply creative, technical problem solving to address multi-dimensional business requirements while promoting an intuitive user experience and maintaining the integrity of Bloomberg Data’s overall technology strategy
  • Adopt solid project management techniques to manage initiatives throughout their lifecycle
  • Proactively establish and communicate timelines and deliverables alongside sponsors and partners
  • Participate in the definition of success metrics and actively report on the business impact of a project using both quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Work closely with partners in DML, in particular Data Quality and Business Intelligence, to advocate for alignment to data management principles as a whole, and directly influence how process engineering practices complement and support these other subdomains of data management
  • Build trust and ongoing relationships with product-aligned teams across the department to learn about their business and their client needs, and combine with BI to identify and articulate strategic opportunities available to advance their business goals
  • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot issues for the production workflows and processes you are responsible for, including promoting enhancements to legacy processes when appropriate

Successful candidates will likely contain a strong combination of the following:

  • Academic experience in an analytical subject area, and/or equivalent professional work experience in data technology, business process management, or related field
  • Strong critical thinking, abstraction, and problem solving skills
  • Working understanding of the Bloomberg Data Technology Tech Stack
  • Demonstrated experience in documenting, designing, maintaining, and/or visualizing workflows or business system requirements
  • Applied experience working with markup, scripting, and query languages (e.g. Python, Groovy, SQL)
  • Relationship building skills, including ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary partners at various organizational levels
  • A desire to empower others, including your internal clients and team members
  • Curiosity in keeping up on industry trends across the fields of technology, data, finance, productivity, and related disciplines
  • Proficiency with project management and business/process analysis techniques. PMP or other professional certifications encouraged
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence and its utility in finding opportunities for impactful change
