What’s the role?

As a Buy-Side Strategist, you will possess deep industry experience, capital markets knowledge and client friendly approach that demonstrates a solutions-oriented mindset and ability to partner with our most sophisticated stakeholders. You will be expected to build a deep understanding of Bloomberg's front-to-back workflow capabilities and toolsets, combining knowledge of systems functionality with exceptional and pragmatic problem-solving skills. Using your knowledge of the broader landscape and applying your Bloomberg product knowledge, you will thoughtfully assess product fit and advise on client solutions that meet and progress the organization along their transformation journey. You will be a strong internal partner and SME, identifying trends, opportunities and gaps, synthesizing themes to educate and drive prioritization within the product organization and other stakeholders. To do this, you will need to utilize your strong internal network and awareness of the organization to drive a common understanding of needs between internal and external stakeholders. You will play an active role in advancing the narrative and deepening the community Bloomberg’s enterprise products and the broader Buy-Side offering.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Act as the voice and change agent on behalf of the APAC Buy-Side community
  • Be the Buy-Side SME, with a primary focus on APAC, and represent Bloomberg’s Buy-Side offering across all product lines with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Structure and solve client business and product challenges, collaborating and coordinating with a range of internal stakeholders to make recommendations on a wide range of issues, demonstrating understanding of the product vision and commercial framework
  • Engage with clients, consultants and other industry participants to build an understanding of the current operating landscape, observe business and technology trends across asset managers and asset owners, and identify strategic opportunities for Bloomberg
  • Develop thought leadership and strategic collateral that communicates in a clear, concise, and impactful way
  • Engage as a solutions advisor who does not just deliver what is being asked but has the acumen and confidence to use SME knowledge to ask questions, communicate peer observations and challenge status quo to attain best practice client solutions that achieve desired business outcomes with existing product capabilities
  • Exercise sound judgment in leading discussions on trade-offs between client-specific needs and broader business priorities

  • Demonstrate personal presence and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence at all levels, build credibility as a "peer" and “trusted advisor” with leaders internally and externally alike
  • Be curious, a self-starter, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible – an entrepreneurial and passionate learner who can quickly become an expert in various domains and conceptualize the impact of new information
  • Commit to continuous training and coaching of team colleagues – we succeed together not alone
  • Collaborate with the broader Strategy team on global programs in addition to advancing regional needs
  • Have strong existing relationships internally and externally across the APAC region

You'll need to have:

  • 10+ years of experience in a Buy-Side focused role with a background in product strategy, technical product marketing, horizonal product management, technical project management, implementations, or technical sales
  • Deep familiarity with asset management, the industry, players, business, workflows and technology requirements. Global and multi-asset experience a plus
  • Knowledge of the full investment lifecycle, front, middle and back, with subject matter expertise in at least one of these areas
  • Track record of client engagement and communication, with the ability to craft and deliver both technical documentation and conceptual presentations with compelling narrative (white-board, small team, broad audience)
  • Extreme pragmatism with good commercial sense, comfortable making principles-based recommendations, trade-offs, and decisions
  • High standards and strong sense of personal ownership, comfortable setting and holding a high bar with internal and external stakeholders
  • Leadership skills to effect change via influence and without authority, and to challenge the status quo
  • Excellent presentation skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities, a versatile communicator who can adjust storyline to the audience, and create alignment across varied groups including sales, product, engineering and client
  • Ability to travel 40% of the time (primarily between APAC, London, NY)
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organisation
  • Bachelor’s degree or degree-equivalent qualifications
