Bloomberg delivers data, news and analytics quickly and accurately to more than 315,000 users. Data Technologies Engineering are the group responsible for acquiring all of that data and information from the wider world and applying structure to it. The Data Technologies group in London is responsible for building our group's core infrastructure - our aim is to make all of our data acquisition completely automated and for it to be adaptive, intelligent and highly performant.

We have been building a completely new architecture to underpin the way engineers and data scientists at Bloomberg write code - we are looking for an experienced software engineer to join this effort. Our new platform is a mix of dynamic languages, OOP and functional programming. We are using a number of large distributed computing systems and different styles of data persistence.

We'll trust you to:

• Be highly technical and an excellent coder. Intellectual curiosity is something we value very highly
• Understand the correct balance between innovation, experimentation and getting things done. You will need to have a can-do approach, be creative, open-minded and resourceful
• Work effectively in a small team. You will help us be entrepreneurial, agile and responsive. We adapt to changes and the problems we face are constantly evolving
• Have expertise in distributed system design and with distributed algorithms

You’ll need to have:

• Large scale systems design exposure with excellent knowledge of Unix/Linux. You should understand what is involved in a software architecture required to continually process petabytes of data
• A solid foundation in computer science with strong knowledge in data structures, algorithms, and software design
• Excellent knowledge in two of Python, C++ or JavaScript
• Real passion for keeping up with technologies
• Prior experience on SRE projects

We’d love to see:

• You know how docker/rkt containers work at scale
• You have exposure to Kubernetes/Swarm/Mesos/Spark
• You have familiarity with NoSQL Databases
• You have a background in the use of statistical analysis or machine learning methods
