What's the Role?

As a member of our News Automation Team, you will be responsible for creating web crawling agents for our industry-leading, proprietary web scraping system to expand our company earnings coverage. You will build efficient, flexible scripts to automate the acquisition, extraction, and validation of this content in the Bloomberg environment. You will also identify areas of opportunity and utilize your technical skills to acquire content from the web, working with our News Core, Print News, and Global Data teams. You need to be a tenacious problem solver, diagnosing the optimal methods to use when building and maintaining our web crawling jobs. Additionally, you will be tasked with finding opportunities for efficiency in our processes and collaborating with the management team to implement enhancements to the product.

This role will expand our team’s development by acquiring relevant news content and generating metadata for consumption by our users. Analysts in this role also collaborate with Global Data and News stakeholders to identify new opportunities for acquisition and the most efficient manner to obtain them. Each of these components plays an integral role in delivering valuable information to our clients.

What we do in Content Acquisition:

Provide fast-sourced coverage of press releases for companies reporting their earnings numbers first on the web, and coordinating this coverage with both peers and News stakeholders
Develop systems and methods for acquiring content from external sources to support the Global Data and News businesses
Liaise with stakeholders to capture requirements, scope projects, and develop project plans
Apply analytical skills to identify creative work-flow improvements and use state of the art technology solutions to improve our processes and software
Assist in monitoring and communicating progress throughout each project's development life-cycle

What we look for:

1-2 years’ experience scripting in languages such as Python or Javascript
Demonstrable ability to forge relationships with other teams at the managerial and analyst levels
Examples of collaboration with internal & external stakeholders to solve technical issues in their businesses
Examples of trouble-shooting technical issues relating to data retrieval
Motivated problem/puzzle-solver, interested in using different, leading-edge technologies to meet our business and product needs
Good communication skills for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to use new and existing technologies for advancing products and infrastructure
Advanced project management and organizational skills
Proactive involvement in finding opportunities to enhance our tools and workflows
Experience of web crawling a plus
Experience of additional web front & back end technologies a plus, such as HTML, DNS, HTTP, IIS, AWS, ASP, PHP
