What is the role

We are seeking a candidate interested in company news -- trends, growth, profit & loss, forward guidance, and market impact -- and who is passionate about working with technology and data to cover corporate earnings accurately and quickly, while presenting the numbers in the right context at the same time.

In this role, you will be at the center of the intersection of data and journalism. You will work with the entire newsroom to help journalists use the data and tools at their fingertips. This is one of the most innovative and dynamic areas of our field, where automation, data and news judgment come together to produce unbelievable results in the blink of an eye. You'll also be connecting the dots of wider earnings trends in Asia and writing stories that capture those trends.

We will trust you to:

• Scan through stock exchange filings for earnings statements and other market-moving updates from companies that matter, while keeping track of schedules, conference calls and analysts’ estimates
• Use Bloomberg's technology, aided by artificial intelligence and automation, to write previews of upcoming earnings, and then publish earnings stories in real-time.
• Communicate with colleagues across the newsroom and other departments to help us improve the quality and depth of our earnings product.
• Be an ambassador for the latest and the best, new processes that saves time, or the new dataset that adds context.
• Stitch together broader themes from the earnings of individual companies and write those stories.

You will need to have:

• Working familiarity with company earnings reports, and ability to pick the right data from complex profit & loss statements and balance sheets
• Curiosity and willingness to learn how to work with automated and semi-automated tools
• Ability to effectively convey technical details to a broad audience in simple English
• Ability to wear many hats and multitask under pressure
• Confidence as a writer, willingness to digest feedback, learn and improve on the job
• Understanding of the importance in planning and preparation to break news with speed and accuracy
• A self starter mindset, independently and proactively communicating and collaborating with different stakeholders
