Our team:

At Bloomberg, everything moves at the speed of light, including our employees. In Internal Systems, we’re building tools to optimize every part of employees’ jobs, empowering them to be even more productive and efficient. Given the tremendous impact these systems have on our employees' day-to-day, we need to build user-friendly applications along with a fast and scalable backend system.

What we do:

Across all of our teams, we take pride in being integral to our employees’ success. Our in-house ticketing system enables employees and clients to create and receive new requests (for everything from a new product to a simple temperature control) every day, which are then auto-routed by our intelligent distribution engine. The system receives a new ticket every 7 seconds and updates every half-second, so speed and accuracy are our main focus.

We also develop an in-house appointment calendaring tool that brings together the powerful backend of Microsoft Exchange and our in-house room reservation and video conference systems, which makes scheduling a meeting a breeze (even from your mobile device). Our in-house configuration management tool controls more than 4,000 servers across Bloomberg's various trading platforms. We’re building the critical infrastructure of the Bloomberg Order enterprise system, which dictates the client connectivity and trade execution settings.
All of our engineers work across a full stack in an agile environment, so no matter what team you join you'll have the opportunity to oversee projects from ideation to production rollout. You'll release code changes every week - sometimes even every day. Along the way, you'll collaborate with various engineering and business teams across the company.

We'll trust you to:

  • Be creative, motivated and able to work in all areas of the tech stack
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Be a team player and work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Have fun while doing great work!

You'll need to have:

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience in a strongly-typed object-oriented language (C++, C#, Java)
  • 3+ years of experience with a relational SQL database (MS SQL preferred) and experience writing SQL queries
  • 2+ years of professional experience with JavaScript
  • Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills

We'd love to see:

  • Experience with web services, XSD/WSDL, SOAP, SOA and microservices architecture
  • Professional experience with Python
  • Database schema design, performance optimization skills and query tuning
  • Experience working in an Agile SDLC
  • Experience with UI design
