The Team: 

Bloomberg runs on data. It's our business and our product. From the biggest banks to the most elite hedge funds, financial institutions need timely, accurate data to capture opportunities and evaluate risk in a dynamic market. In order to provide this level of service and the security required to protect it, the Security Data Platform team provides a platform that transforms petabytes of structured and unstructured data such as text, time series, and events into machine-readable knowledge fueling numerous security focused applications. 
The Security Data Platform is a new team which was established to build a platform supporting the data and analytical needs of Bloomberg’s Information Security organizations (CSOC, CIRT, TVM, CTO and others). Our platform is being built on a modern container orchestration, leveraging streaming and data storage platforms. It provides a working base for information security engineers to quickly perform the analysis and build the tools they need to ensure the security of our infrastructure.  
 
The Role: 

You'll have the opportunity to make key technical decisions which will bring this platform into the future. You'll be able to apply your existing knowledge while gaining experience from working with specialists in stream processing, container orchestration, big data and the information security disciplines. You'll have an opportunity to create a meaningful impact on the overall information security capabilities at Bloomberg. At the same time, you are building skills to enrich, normalize and contextualize Terabytes of data per day in real-time and building solutions to efficiently analyze and search through Petabytes of data. 
 
We’ll trust you to: 

• Collaborate with information security personnel to understand their software and data needs 
• Add and extend core platform features that help with the mission of the team 
• Take ownership and manage projects effectively to ensure clear communication around expectations, timelines, and vision with stakeholders 

 
 
You’ll need to have: 

• 3+ years experience programming in Java and/or Python 
• 3+ years of  experience working with distributed systems. 
• Ability to collaborate across teams, manage competing goals and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment 
• Strong problem solving skills. 

 
 
We’d love to see (Not Required): 

• Experience with functional programming language like Scala 
• Experience working with Big Data technologies such as HDFS, Hadoop, Spark, Hive, HBase, Druid, etc 
• Experience with a time series database such as InfluxDB, Graphite, or Apache Druid. 
• Experience working with Apache Kafka or other message queuing systems 
• Experience writing parsers/schemas for semi-structured and unstructured content 
• Experience with Elasticsearch, Solr, Cassandra and other database technologies
