Bloomberg New Energy Finance is seeking a talented, highly-motivated individual to join our New York City analysis team, focusing on wholesale electricity markets. Specifically, this person will analyze the revenue streams driving build and retirement decisions on U.S. grids. This role involves fundamental power dispatch modelling; it entails publishing to our library of U.S. electricity market research.

We will trust you to:- Publish research on US wholesale power markets; interpret Bloomberg Terminal Fair Value (futures) curves and identify investment opportunities

  • Operate and maintain our power dispatch modeling efforts in ERCOT
  • Describe the supply-demand balance under various US Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) schemes; Produce Renewable Energy Credit (REC) price forecasts
  • Populate key inputs, calibrate with historical data, interpret results and extract insights
  • Communicate findings to clients and prospects, engaging with stakeholders across the energy sector
  • We’ll need you to:- Shows real passion for working in the energy industry, and possess a deep understanding of US power markets and electricity economics
  • Employ excellent critical thinking and strong modelling skills
  • Communicate clearly in English: writing (for research reports) and speaking (for presentations)
  • Act as a self-starter, have a high work-rate and have the ability to work on parallel tasks with attention to detail
  • Be quantitative-minded: be capable handling large datasets in MS Excel, SQL and Python/Pandas
  • Experience with fundamental power dispatch modeling (Plexos, Aurora, Pro-Mod, etc)
  • Familiarity with mapping software like QGIS
  • We would love you to have:- Experience or knowledge of VBA, SQL, R, Python or other coding languages
  • A background in engineering, natural sciences, policy, finance or economics
  • Understanding of the factors that govern commodity prices
  • Knowledge of U.S. Renewable Energy Credit (U.S. REC) markets

We'd love to see:- Experience with programming languages such as VBA, R, Matlab, Python or use of statistical computing packages

  • Post-graduate qualifications or professional experience in sciences, engineering, business or economics
  • Professional experience in the commodities, oil and gas, finance industries
