What’s the role?

Bloomberg's User Experience group is expanding and looking for an experienced, innovative Designer and Front End Developer specializing in CSS3/HTML5/Java Script development. We are looking for a hybrid designer who can participate in both granular visual design work and can bring design concepts to life with pixel precision in CSS.

Bloomberg's visual brand breaks ranks with traditional financial services companies; by being smart, bold, dynamic, and unapologetic; and by making complex user workflows a clear and engaging experience.

The Visual Design team is all-hands-on-deck, flexibly flipping between working on very granular UI details to large-scale application design. You will solve complex hierarchical problems in the financial arena that involve large data sets and intricate workflows. Projects range widely from creating innovative and modern design patterns, to producing, modifying and maintaining UI elements in CSS. You will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team of visual designers, interaction designers, prototypers, and engineers to push new functionality to clients. As the ideal candidate, you should have expert CSS3 knowledge, concrete design and typography skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to understand and iterate creatively around constraints. In addition to visual design principles, you should be familiar with UCD and agile methodologies.

You’ll need to have:

• 5+ years of experience designing and implementing innovative visuals for modern desktop software applications or web based products.
• Expert knowledge of CSS3/HTML5
• BFA/MFA or BA/MA in Communication Design or Graphic Design with professional experience is strongly preferred.
• A proven track record in producing innovative visuals for modern desktop software applications
• An expert understanding of the front end development process
• A demonstrated understanding of visual design and UCD principles via a portfolio
• Demonstrated fluency with the Adobe Creative suite with a concentration in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
• Familiarity with JavaScript, Agile, GitHub, Sketch, OmniGraffle
• Deep understanding in different technologies and be able to learn and adapt to new technologies
