Bloomberg's Data Science Solutions Team is entrusted to continually improve Bloomberg's ability to make data-driven decisions. Whether supporting the Executive Office, Product or Sales groups of our organization, our team arms these areas of Bloomberg with insights to improve their business and develop new products.

Who are you?

You're an experienced data scientist with significant R and Python knowledge, as well as PostgreSQL and HIVE/Spark expertise. You have a natural curiosity to solve complex problems, and the energy and creativity to try new solutions. You'll work alongside machine learning experts, technologists, product managers and data scientists from across our organization to solve interesting, sophisticated business problems, develop models and implement solutions across a variety of business verticals.

What's the role?

You'll be responsible for identifying the data we should be collecting. You'll also devise methods of instrumenting our system to extract this information and will work with technologists to develop an ETL process to transform raw data into business insights. Most critically, you'll then deliver the output of your analyses to business users (both non-technical and technical). You'll be the point-person to answer questions about our clients' workflow and interactions, and you will help shape critical customer experiences with Bloomberg's products.

In a typical week, you might enable our Product teams to build better products by providing deep insights about customer adoption or help the News organization to identify and explain readership. You might provide Bloomberg senior management with predictive analytics to improve forecasting. And that's just a sampling of projects from a "typical" week.

You'll need to have:

  • 5+ years of work experience in the use of advanced statistical analysis and machine learning methods (e.g. topic modeling, neural networks, ensemble models, SVM, random forest, linear regression, statistical significance, correlation, to name just a few…)
  • Expertise with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with HDFS and Analytics on Hadoop (HIVE/SPARK).
  • Superior ability to break down large, complex business problems into discrete, achievable steps.
  • Ability to clearly communicate research findings to technical and non-technical decision-makers.
  • Experience testing and validating statistical hypotheses.
  • Expertise in statistical, numerical and visualization toolkit (e.g. R, Python, MatLab, SAS, etc.).
  • Experience with MS Excel and presentation software.
  • Degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Sciences, or another quantitative discipline is a plus.
