Our Team:

Bloomberg’s Global Mobility team in the Human Resources department provides a wide range of assistance to the business and to relocating employees including all aspects of immigration, relocation and tax support. Bloomberg has 19,000 employees based in 74 countries and we relocate more than 750 employees and new hires domestically & internationally each year. Bloomberg ensures a high level of customer service to the relocating employee while always looking for ways to minimize compliance risks for Bloomberg, reduce costs where reasonable, improve processes and manage vendors for maximum efficiency.

The Global Mobility Tax Specialist will report to the co-head of the Global Mobility team and will be based in Bloomberg’s New York City office. This position will support the global team on a day to day basis. Note that Bloomberg transfers employees on a “local to local” basis – thus the employee is responsible for income and social taxes in the host location.

We'll trust you to:

  • Advise & consult with HR business partners, tax advisors and payroll colleagues on the tax implications of internal transfers and short term assignments in their home and host locations.
  • Oversee the tax loan process arising in connection with relocating employees and business travelers including computation of the tax loan amounts, preparation of loan paperwork and communications, discussion with impacted employees and then follow-up with tax vendor and employees to secure repayment
  • Assist with determining the tax implications of short term business travelers including review of business traveler information on a monthly basis, identify tax risks, liaise with Payroll/Finance for budgeting and accrual purposes and the tax vendor to ensure tax compliance around the world.
  • Oversee relocation expense review and reporting throughout the year from Bloomberg’s relocation vendor and expenses submitted by the employee to ensure appropriate wage reporting and taxation via payroll
  • Review tax computations prepared by vendor and arrange for tax reimbursements to employees in connection with relocation expenses and protected income.
  • Review cost estimates prepared by tax vendor for reasonableness for short term and permanent transfers
  • Assist in managing the tax vendor including review of vendor invoices and responding to day-to-day employee and vendor queries
  • Oversee the global tax compliance process including preparation of eligibility lists, monitoring the tax return preparation process and following up with employees and vendor when appropriate

You need to have:

  • BS/BA
  • 4+ years of expatriate/international tax experience, with a focus on relocating employees across all regions of the world
  • Strong writing, communication & presentations skills and the ability to interact with all levels of our organization, from independent contributors to senior leadership
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced, dynamic goal oriented environment
  • Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do, roll-up your sleeves attitude
  • Excellent time/project management and multi-tasking skills
  • The ability to work independently, think analytically, with the ability to conduct research, document processes, analyze data and resolve problems
