About the Role

The Finance and Operations Director’s main duty is to provide financial support, operational oversight and assistance to the staff of the CEO NY Jobs Council and its programs  The CEO NY Jobs Council is an action-oriented coalition led by the Chief Executive Officers of some of the largest employers in New York.  The Council fosters collaboration between corporate, education, local government, community and nonprofit leaders to prepare New York area residents to prepare for the future of work and meet employer needs. The Corporation’s members are helping create economic opportunity for low-income New Yorkers, particularly from Black, LatinX and Asian communities, by seeking to connect them with in-demand skills and job opportunities.  The Corporation will expand Membership to include a wide range of New York employers of different sizes and industry backgrounds.

The Finance and Operations Lead will be a strategic partner, and report to the Executive Director. This role will support the following areas: finance and budgeting  administration, operational oversight, and project management.

Transactional Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to finance and accounting areas of the organization.
  • Provide oversight, manage and evaluate all external service providers in finance, accounting, and other operational services, including responsibility for
  • Oversight of financial services and activities performed by vendors or outsourced agents to ensure all general accounting and tax accounting is being properly enacted and maintained by vendor(s). The finance director will independently design and/or review reports in order to provide monthly analyses of accounting activities, business partnership activities, and the maintenance of effective internal controls while ensuring statutory compliance in all accounting initiatives.
  • Review and analyses of vendor-provided accounts payable and receivable, budget management and payroll.
  • Timely, accurate, and complete financial statements for all levels, including Board of Directors, executive, and management.
  • Assistance in coordinating the preparation of the draft audited financial statements and all tax returns.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics as well as management cost reports.
  • Assist in production of cash flow reports, annual budget, and forecasts.
  • Manage relationships with partners/vendors of program and operational services. Oversee and manage all contracts; Develop and manage all necessary internal reviews to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of all systems and vendors that deliver these services, including all necessary technology providers.

Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and assist with developing audit schedules for the annual audit.
  • Suggest improvements in processes to increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Gather 990 and 990T information for the annual tax return.
  • Oversee state registration filings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proactive, hands-on manager who will own, in partnership with the Executive Director, responsibility for the organizational finances.
  • Ability to oversee all day-to-day financials of a small organization, to identify and anticipate problems, and work effectively with vendors who provide accounting, payroll and budget management.
  • Strategic thinker who possesses solid business acumen and is able to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others, both internally and externally.
  • Time management skills, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Proven ability to make complex and time-sensitive decisions in the best interests of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Finance and accounting experience (preferably at a nonprofit), including finance, accounting, audit, and analysis (including gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to management and external stakeholders).
  • Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and excellent Excel skills.
