Our Security teams provide policy-based access control mechanisms capable of authorizing access to all of Bloomberg’s systems, applications, and data. It exposes a well structured common language to identify principals and resources while ensuring fast, reliable, and consistent access evaluation and supporting individual, role, and condition based access.

You are a talented and motivated engineer with an interest in security, access control, and are looking for a welcoming and collaborative team. You will work closely with other security engineers and infrastructure teams to develop highly available, distributed, and secure access control processes using Open Policy Agent for on-prem, public and private cloud and cloud-like environments. The team puts a premium on elevating our existing infrastructure to create a modern industry leading platform and you'll be in a position to drive major infrastructure decisions impacting all of Bloomberg Engineering.
 

You’ll have the opportunity to:

• Design and implement conditional policy evaluation rules
• Advance the capabilities of Open Policy Agent
• Integrate with multiple grouping and role systems
• Apply industry standard security patterns to ensure proper data access and control
• Collaborate with security and infrastructure teams across Bloomberg
• Advocate and practice mature software development practices (code reviews, package management)

 

You need to have:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience (preferably Java or Go)
• 3+ years of Open Policy Agent and Rego language experience
• Strong problem solving, communication skills
• Understanding of distributed systems, algorithms, and data structures
• Ability to debug and correct production problems 

We'd love to see:

• Experience with modern industry access control standards and patterns
• Experience working with open-source software/community (upstream accepted contribution, or community presence) is preferred
• Experience with public cloud provider access control mechanisms
• Experience building infrastructure and managing distributed systems
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and containers
