What is the Bloomberg Law Search Team?

As a research platform, search lies at the heart of Bloomberg Law's products. The Search Team is tasked with the problem of understanding users' needs and efficiently surfacing the most relevant content from a corpus of over a billion documents. We leverage open source technologies and continuously draw ideas from the information retrieval, ML, and NLP domains to best meet our users’ evolving needs. The challenges you will encounter will range from tuning distributed computation performance to tweaking relevance models and using applied statistical techniques to analyze A/B test results.

We will trust you to:

• Be a self-driven problem solver who has a strong interest in the information retrieval and/or distributed computing domains
• Be an excellent communicator who can collaborate effectively within and across different roles
• Deliver end-to-end solutions starting from an idea, including the data exploration, modeling, implementation, and deliberations with product and stakeholders

You will need to have:

• Strong analytic and critical thinking skills
• 3+ years of programming experience in object oriented systems OR 
• 3+ years of experience building, tuning, analyzing information retrieval systems
• Experience using ML and data science platforms for building models
• B.A. or B.S. from a technical field

We’d love to see experience with:

• Large scale system design
• Building, tuning, analyzing information retrieval systems
• Any or all phases of machine learning project life cycle
• Online controlled experiments (A/B testing)
• Building solutions for the legal domain

Salary Range: 160,000 - 240,000 USD Annually + Benefits + Bonus
