It's rare to get the chance to join a new team at a company as established as Bloomberg. We need top engineers to build our new Telemetry system which will simplify problem detection and speed resolution for all systems company wide. This system will provide better insight and analytics by incorporating logs and metrics from all of our software and hardware systems. The atmosphere is exciting, vibrant and bold. This is a full end-to-end system, so you will need to be comfortable working in many areas. This will require a wide range of skills, some of which can be learned over time, including time series databases, statistical analysis, web-based UIs, RESTful services and multiple programming languages.

We'll trust you to:

• Help build this new system that is the foundation for several firm-wide initiatives
• Deploy new features to production and incrementally add to them so we are regularly delivering value to our customers
• Work on multiple cutting-edge technologies such as Python/IPython, Spark, Hadoop, Hbase, Kafka and other open source software
• Develop the machine learning and data analytics that will provide insight into the performance of our large-scale systems

You need to have:

• Proficiency programming in C/C++, JavaScript, Ember/Ruby or Python (Scala and Java a plus)
• 3+ years of experience with building similar large-scale systems
• A background in backend systems (preferably large scale) with a lot of load/impact
• Previous experience with looking at data, statistics and latency numbers rather than building theoretical systems

We'd love to see:

• Experience with technologies such as Kafka, Hadoop, HBase, OpenTSDB, Parquet, Ember/Rails, Postgres, Chef or Splunk
• Previous experience with large-scale data, analytics, data science or machine learning applications
• Familiarity with open source machine learning, data science tools and search technologies such as Solr and Elasticsearch
