You've seen the headlines. Financial firms are fined millions of dollars when just one employee does something they shouldn't. It can be as serious as insider trading or as seemingly innocent as an inappropriate instant message. Keeping track of who is saying and doing what is a pretty daunting task for compliance officers, especially with the explosion in the volume and variety of data produced by communications platforms coupled with bespoke firm policies. That's where you come in.

As a member of Bloomberg Vault's engineering team, you'll design our next generation surveillance product used by more than 1,000 organizations worldwide. You'll help us find and build solutions for a problem that no off-the-shelf product solves; a customizable policy engine that operates on real-time heterogeneous data.

We'll trust you to:

  • Interact with our clients and product managers to understand specific business requirements
  • Design and develop a new flexible, scalable and customizable policy engine that allows compliance officers to define their own policies
  • Deploy the engine, integrating with the policy, monitoring and alerting management infrastructure
  • Prototype and test proposed solutions to ensure we are making the right design choices

You need to have:

  • Experience architecting, designing and rolling out distributed systems with a high volume of data
  • 5+ years of experience developing production systems in Java
  • Experience using NoSQL data stores such as HDFS, Cassandra, Solr and Redis
  • Knowledge of big data analytics technologies including Hadoop FS, Kafka, Storm and Spark
  • The ability to propose technical design alternatives and discuss the trade-offs of using certain technologies
  • Excellent problem solving and multitasking skills with a creative and flexible attitude

We'd love to see:

  • Experience programming in Scala - if you don't know Scala, you'll learn it on the job like some of us did
  • Experience working with data distributed across large data storage clusters
  • Familiarity with AWS specifically S3, EMR, RDS and EC2
  • Experience with machine learning and NLP

If you're excited by these challenges, passionate about community-driven development and have a flexible, creative approach to problem solving, we want to talk to you! Submit an application and learn more about Bloomberg Vault at bloomberg.com/vault.
