Bloomberg Trading Solutions (TS) provides hosted Buyside and Sellside Order Management Systems (OMS) to some of the largest institutional broker-dealers, asset managers, asset owners and hedge funds in the world. Each OMS instance is composed of services and databases that are developed, owned, and handled by hundreds of engineers across the world.

On one side, there is a need for a common platform that TS engineering teams can run applications on, so that they can stay focused on delivering business value instead of solving infrastructure problems; on the other side, system and application reliability must be maintained to a high standard to ensure good client experience. The TS Platform and SRE team solves both problems.

Our team strives for:

  • Reliability to avoid any downtime that can lead to financial consequences for our clients
  • Observability to ensure our systems are reliable and that issues can be addressed before they become a problem
  • Automation of systems to ensure the platform is used fairly, as well as to facilitate triaging when issues arise

We'll trust you to:

  • Participate in designing and implementation of software infrastructure with strong availability guarantees and be able to facilitate scalability of applications running on top of the infrastructure
  • Collaborate with teams owning various middleware and database technologies to be able to facilitate the adoption for applications running on the platform
  • Own, manage, monitor and optimize the reliability and overall health of our development and production environments
  • Monitor current capacity, conduct regular capacity testing and predict future capacity needs
  • Collect and analyze metrics for shared resources (both system and application resources)
  • Collaborate on design and development of PaaS solution using cloud technologies

You’ll need to have:

  • 3+ years working with an object-oriented programming language (C/C++, Python, Java, etc.)
  • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, a similar field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Prior contributions to system design, architecture and scaling of fault-tolerant distributed systems
  • Understanding of Computer Science fundamentals (data structures and algorithms)
  • Knowledge on Unix or Linux fundamentals
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues with distributed systems

We’d love to see:

  • Knowledge and experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (like Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience working with and understanding of cloud technologies
  • Experience with various observability tools, such as Grafana, Splunk, Humio
  • Experience with various cache, database and middleware technologies, such as Redis and Kafka
  • Understanding and attention for SRE principles
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines
