What’s the role?

Bloomberg’s Financial Products UX team is hiring a senior Visual Designer to help drive and implement the design direction for current and future Bloomberg desktop application products. The Visual Design team is all-hands-on-deck, flexibly moving between granular UI details to large-scale application design. You will iterate on out-of-the-box solutions and solve complex hierarchical problems in the financial arena that involve large data sets and intricate workflows. We are looking for an experienced, hybrid UI Designer and Front End Developer with expertise in CSS3/HTML5/JavaScript development. You will participate in strategic visual design and will bring design concepts to life with pixel precision in CSS.

Projects range widely from establishing iconography to designing/implementing applications, widgets, and UI framework elements. You will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team of visual designers, interaction designers, product owners, and engineers to push new functionality to clients. As the ideal candidate, you should have excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to understand constraints, attention to detail, and concrete typographic skills. In addition to visual design principles, you should be familiar with UCD and agile methodologies.  

You should have a proven track record in producing innovative visuals for modern desktop software applications and an expert understanding of the front end development process. Successful candidates will have a deep understanding of different technologies and be able to learn and adapt to new technologies.

You’ll need to have:

• 5+ years of experience designing and implementing innovative visuals for modern desktop software applications or web based products 
• A proven track record in producing exciting, innovative visuals for modern desktop software applications or web based products
• Expert knowledge of SASS/CSS3/HTML5
• Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite, JavaScript, and GitHub
• Familiarity with Agile and Sketch
• BFA/MFA or BA/MA in Communication Design or Graphic Design with professional experience is strongly preferred. 
• A demonstrated understanding of visual design and UCD principles via a portfolio

Portfolio:

We are interested in reviewing a couple of your design projects for this position. We ideally would like to see artifacts from across the project lifecycle. Your representative projects may include, but should not be limited to: research, personas, sketches, site maps, task flows, wireframes, storyboards, etc. We are, however, most interested in seeing detailed wireframes (preferably a deck) illustrating a step-by-step user workflow for complex transactional interfaces. An ideal project to showcase for us would have an intricate user interface that you can use to explain your detailed design decisions. Experience working with interactive charting applications and/or data visualization design skills would be helpful. Please include two (2) projects where you can give us a "deep-dive" into your design process.
