Our Team:

Our Global Information Systems Team is responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting Bloomberg’s the internal IT systems including our global corporate network, and the hardware/software to support nearly 19,000 employees in more than 170 offices around the world.
Our employees rely on the technology solutions and support that we provide to do their jobs in a fast-paced, highly-demanding, technology-focused environment.

Our 19,000 employees generate more than 320,000 service requests each year through a ticketing system that drives both human and automated services—from software download to a Desktop dispatch. We handle approximately 400+ software titles, as well as, monitor and implement security for the entire corporate network that consists of 28,000 PCs, 50,000 screen displays and 120,000 network connections.

What is the role?

As a Server & Storage Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, provisioning and automating compute virtualization platforms and solutions. You will also be responsible for designing the storage SAN & NAS infrastructure supporting these hypervisor server platforms.

You will drive globally the physical and virtual compute, converged, hyper-converged, and storage technologies for all corporate Bloomberg businesses spanning our datacenters, corporate locations, and edge remote offices. Our team of engineers deploys infrastructure systems based on best of breed technology and practices around high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring and security.

You will be proficient in designing and deploying multi-site compute farms utilizing Windows Server (2012 & 2016) and virtualization offerings from Vmware (vSphere & ESXi) but not limited to. Subsequently, managing these x86 hardware offerings from HP, Cisco UCS, Dell and Supermicro that they run on. In addition, you will possess working knowledge in managing the storage platforms supporting these virtualization platforms compromised of different solutions from EMC (VNX, XtremIO &Isilon), NetApp (AFF & FAS), and Pure (Flasharray) and the SAN fabric concentration of these through Cisco MDS and Brocade switches.

Apart from the design and deployment aspect of these systems, you will also manage the monitoring and lifecycle of these assets while being mindful of KPI’s, SLA’s, and OLA’s throughout all Bloomberg businesses. Some of the tools we will look from you to have knowledge in but not limited to will be in vCenter, vRealize Operations, HP Oneview, Microsoft SCOM, Solarwinds ORION, Grafana, NetApp OnCommand, Insight IQ, Splunk, Nagios and any element manager pertinent to the specific technology.

We will trust you in:

  • Implementing best practices, strategies and methodologies, to our compute and storage blocks
  • Developing standards and implementation processes to ensure interoperability between systems
  • Documenting, deploying, and improving new and existing server & storage infrastructure and continue to improve Bloomberg's internal user experience
  • Staying abreast and informed on the latest industry trends, and internal business needs
  • Collaborating across other internal teams (including Security, Risk, and CTO) to deploy, improve, and secure, server and storage technologies under management

You will need to have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Information Technology
  • Proficient knowledge in VMware vSphere and its recent versions (5.x & 6.x), vRealize operations, VMware VSAN, Vmware NSX, VMware Site Recovery Manager, and VMware vCloud Suite
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in deploying server virtualization solutions in an enterprise environment with one of the following offerings: VMware, Citrix, or HyperV
  • Deep understanding of Windows OS and its various versions
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP and Unix networking, Linux kernel, SAN and NAS
  • Knowledge of Shell Scripting, Python/Perl Programming, PowerShell and/or similar
  • Ability and experience in troubleshooting complex and distributed systems
  • Showcase a multitasking and multidisciplinary work ethic
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly
  • Proven complex troubleshooting solving abilities
  • Ability to learn, adapt and apply new technologies
  • Showcase a multitasking and multidisciplinary work ethic
  • Application of Project Management skills through Microsoft Project or Jira

We would love to see:

  • Experience in creating and improving documentation procedures and/or playbooks
  • An understanding of Container OS’ like Kubernetes or Docker
  • Working knowledge of automation platforms like Chef, Puppet, Ansible, or Salt
  • Familiarity with open source configuration and orchestration tools
  • Familiarity with large-scale x86 infrastructure
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Elk, Grafana, Nagios
  • Experience in supporting Windows Clustering, Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Exchange
